Paris S/S 09: Emanuel Ungaro

No one can doubt the fact that there was a craze of rave reviews for the last spring collection of Emanuel Ungaro, when it's still under the directions of Peter Dundas.
So I do think that Esteban Cortazar faced a huge amount of pressure when it comes to his first ever spring collection with Ungaro.
You see, his first 2 seasons with Ungaro really impressed me, with his drapings for fall 08 and his smart use of new prints for resort 09. But this season, he seems to have tried a little too hard to match up with Dundas creations.
What Cortazar missed on the delivery would have to be his prints. I really do believe that when it comes to colourful and intricate prints, one should be really careful of the wrapping technique of the silhouette as the folds would mess up the prints even more.
And what he came up with, is an perfect example.

But I would still have to give this young talent my salute though. Designers has their "hits" and "misses" seasons, so it's really not fair to judge, especially when he's still so new to the house of Ungaro. And besides, the last 2 dresses really do make up for me. How gorgeous!
